Since 2006, when it was founded by Mary Buschman in the Adirondack hamlet of Keene Valley, Skylight Fine Art Gallery has played an important role in exhibiting works by important late nineteenth and early twentieth century American artists who came to the area, such as Homer Dodge Martin, Roswell Shurtleff, Louis Elshemius, Harold Weston, and contemporary artists interested in the landscape painting tradition such as Monica Bradbury, John Whitton Bria and Pieter Lefferts. Under Mary’s direction, Skylight Fine Art has helped establish a vital dialogue among artists and collectors in New York State’s Adirondack Park and beyond.
Mary’s background includes studies at Williams College, where she majored in Art History. She also coordinated exhibitions and performed sales at the internationally-renowned Gagosian Gallery and German-art based Michael Werner Gallery in New York. In 2003, she completed her master’s degree in Contemporary art at the Sotheby’s Institute of Art in London. From 2007-2010, she attended Fordham Law School and in May 2011, was admitted as a member of the New York State Bar Association. As owner of Skylight Fine Art, Mary has appraised art collections, negotiated private artwork sales, and fostered numerous collaborative art initiatives.
